I was 17 when I fell in love with coffee.  Of course at that time I was using whipping cream and lots of sugar and loved it as a liquid desert.  Now I just love coffee any old way hot or iced, dark or light.  I love the smell of the fresh ground beans and the sound the coffee maker makes.  I used this journal page to record my thoughts as well as play with some different Gelato colors and practice blending with PITT markers over the gesso covered paged of the book.  The stamps used are mostly from the Blockheads Coffee Tea stamp set and the new Journaling stamp set.  I simply drew some patches of color using the water soluble Gelato paints and wiped them over the pages with a wet rag.  I used Memento, StazOn and VersaMagic inks to stamp onto the treated pages.

Journaling Stamps - And a Fun Background Technique

My background on these journal pages was inspired by two different blog posts I've seen recently.  One was on the Faber-Castell blog showing a way to color paper with Gelato Paint Sticks: Creating an Art Journal Background.  The other from the Gauche Alchemy blog shows a fun method for creating a collage background and adding interest by applying tape and pulling it away quickly: Blended Paper Backgrounds.

Did you know that journaling can actually help you sleep? It's true that putting down the thoughts that keep you up at night helps rid your mind of them so you can sleep in peace without fearing that your thoughts will be lost. Well, that's true for written journals, anyway.  I'm not going to get up in the night to go to my craft room and make a book like this to get my thoughts down in a hurry. That's why I made this into a journal with pockets so I can slip my scribbles made on a spiral notebook in the middle of the night into the pockets in the morning. Later in the day I might get a chance to look over some of those ramblings.  Sometimes I come up with really great ideas at night!

In addition to using the piano hinge book binding technique (continue reading for link), this was the first opportunity I had to use the new Vintaj Patina Inks.  The brass charms in the image to the left were used to as embellishments in this journal.  You can brush these inks on using a brush or
