Faux Linen Tutorial

Hi, it is me, Karen McAlpine visiting today from Dreaming and Creating.  Since I did Faux Silk last time, I thought I would continue with the fabric theme. Today, I will be showing you how to create a Faux Linen look for your cards. This is the card we will be making today.

List of Supplies needed to complete this project:
Stamps: Blockheads Paper Arts Stamp Sets Japanese Musicians and ATC set – Years Ago
Tuxedo Black Dye Ink – Memento
Vintage Sepia Ink– VersaFine
Glossy White Cardstock
Black Cardstock
Wine Cardstock
Yellow Cardstock
Tulle
Ribbon
Chinese Coin
Wire
Pearl Stickers
Sand paper

The First step is to stamp the script image from the ATC set on glossy white CS with black dye ink.

Make sure the ink is dry before continuing. Next, sand the stamped paper with ordinary sand paper. I used a very rough grade of sand paper.
Go over the paper several times using an up/down and side to side motion. Really scratch the paper. Wipe the dust off with an old rag. Your paper should look like this now with lots of texture.

The next step is to rub the Vintage Sepia ink into the scratch marks. I used a rag, but you could use cotton balls or sponges.

Your paper will look like this after adding all the ink and trimming the edges.
Here are a few extra examples using other ink and stamp options. I completed the other examples and posted them on my Blog . When you are done looking here, head over there to check out the other projects. There will be a complete list of supplies for the additional samples too. As you will see, this is a very versatile technique.

I added another image over the Faux Linen background. It is from the Japanese Musicians set. I stamped the Musician on some yellow CS with Black dye ink. I cut out the image, added just a tiny bit of Vintage Sepia ink, and glued it to the background.
I added tulle, ribbon, pearl stickers, and a Chinese coin for accents.

I also decorated the inside and thought you might like a peek at that. There is still room to write a nice note.
I hope you enjoyed the tutorial. I am going to try to continue the Fabric theme and will try to come up with some more faux fabric techniques. So, until my next visit, I hope you have a lovely day filled with lots of good quality stamping time. Don’t forget to pop over to my Blog to see the other examples. See you soon,
